Veterinarians

 

KIRK FORREST, DVM                                          
Dr. Forrest is one of the hospital’s owners and Medical Director. He is a native of Ohio and received both his undergraduate and doctor of veterinary medicine degrees from the Ohio State University. After working in upstate New York and then Ohio, he moved to St. Mary’s County in 1987and has been here since. He has a special interest in exotic pets such as birds, lizards, ferrets, rabbits and other small mammals. He also greatly enjoys surgery. He has obtained extensive professional training in orthopedic, laser and laparoscopic surgery.

When not practicing medicine, Dr Forrest enjoys skiing, fishing, boating, wine collecting and baseball. For 10 years as his 3 sons played, he coached the county Little League teams they were on. Dr. Forrest and his wife Anne have 7 “children” – 3 grown boys, Nathan, Danny and Mikey; 2 dogs, Ginger and Bentley; and 2 cats, Meeko and Chloe.


ANN FITZSIMMONS, DVM

Dr. Fitzsimmons is a native of Baltimore, MD. She received her undergraduate degree from Loyola College and her doctor of veterinary medicine from the Ohio State University. Her first position was near Baltimore. Then she moved to St. Mary’s County with her fiancé in 1993 and has been with us since. Dr Fitzsimmons has special interests in feline medicine and small mammal pets.

Dr. Fitzsimmons lives with her husband, daughter and cat. Her hobbies include sewing, camping, kayaking and collecting carousel horses.


MELANIE MACCUBBIN, DVM

Dr. MacCubbin grew up in Orlando, Florida and attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate course work and for her degree in veterinary medicine. She then attended an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in Boston. She was brought to St. Mary’s County in 1998 for the beautiful weather, relaxed environment and her position at our hospital. Her special interests include greyhound medicine and pet dentistry. Besides practicing medicine, Dr. MacCubbin has assumed a number of hospital management responsibilities, including doctor scheduling and task planning and drug / inventory ordering and control.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family which includes 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 children and her husband.


MARIA SPRUIL, DVM

Dr. Spruill is originally from Japan. She came to the United States to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.  She received her undergraduate degree from West Virginia University, obtained a PhD in Animal Science from Iowa State University and her doctor of veterinary medicine from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Her first PhD position at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine brought Maria to Maryland. Her first position as a veterinarian brought her to Waldorf. And finally, we recruited her to St. Mary’s County.  Her special veterinary interests include feline medicine, alternative medicine and ultrasound diagnostics.

Dr. Spruill lives with her husband and 2 cats. Her hobbies include running, camping, hiking, ballroom dancing, oil painting and cooking.


LESLIE MEADOWS, DVM

Dr. Meadows was born and raised in Vienna, Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and her doctor of veterinary medicine from Virginia- Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Meadows recently moved to the area with her husband Scott, who is a forester for SMECO. They have 3 children (or pets): a timid border collie mix named “Chicken”, a sassy cat named “Noodle”, and a disobedient, but very cute beagle named “Bean”.  She enjoys both dog and cat internal medicine and surgery.

Dr. Meadows also enjoys outdoor activities, cooking and sports (especially Redskin’s football). She spends her free time with friends and family.


JENNIFER CABRAL, DVM
Dr. Cabral was born and raised in Bermuda. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Tampa and her doctor of veterinary medicine from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Cabral moved to St. Mary’s County for the weather, the activities and the opportunity at St. Mary’s Veterinary Hospital. Her special interests in the field include exotic pets and wildlife rescue.

She has a very spoiled cat named Mango. Outside of work, she enjoys any outdoor activity, especially on the water, and spending time with family and friends.
